The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted a 20-foot container allegedly concealed with parts of pump-action rifles and two 40-foot containers loaded with cannabis-infused gummies and cookies with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦373.8 million at the Tin Can Island Port Command.
According to the Service, the seizures were made during intelligence-driven operations carried out by officers of the Command as part of ongoing efforts to curb the smuggling of prohibited items into the country.
The Customs Service said the rifle parts were allegedly hidden inside a 20-foot container, while the cannabis-infused edible products were concealed among other imported goods in two separate 40-foot containers in an attempt to evade detection.
The NCS stated that the operation underscores its commitment to strengthening border security, preventing the proliferation of illegal firearms, and stopping the importation of illicit substances capable of posing serious threats to public safety and national security.
The Service added that investigations are ongoing to identify those behind the shipments and determine the full circumstances surrounding the attempted importation. It also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with other security and regulatory agencies to dismantle smuggling networks operating through the nation’s seaports.
The Nigeria Customs Service urged importers, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders to comply with existing import regulations, warning that anyone found violating the law will face the appropriate legal consequences.
