Florentino Pérez won re-election as president of Real Madrid on June 7, 2026. He defeated rival candidate Enrique Riquelme in the club’s first contested presidential election in 20 years.
Pérez received 21,741 votes, which represented around 65 percent of the ballots cast. Riquelme gathered 11,814 votes. A total of 33,555 socios voted at Valdebebas out of nearly 95,000 eligible members.
Real Madrid called the early election after the team finished a season without major trophies. Pérez had held the position since 2009 and originally planned to serve until 2029. He announced the vote in May 2026 to seek a fresh mandate from club members.
The 79-year-old Pérez addressed supporters after the results. He thanked voters for their confidence and outlined plans to strengthen the squad. Pérez promised to pursue major signings, including a potential club-record transfer for a top attacking player.
Enrique Riquelme, a renewable energy entrepreneur, conceded the election. He stated that the result reflected the will of the members. Riquelme added that his campaign achieved progress and vowed to continue advocating for changes at the club.
Pérez’s victory extends his leadership until 2030. This marks his eighth term since first taking office in 2000. During his presidencies, Real Madrid secured 37 titles, the highest total under any club president.
Club officials confirmed the vote count shortly after polls closed. Pérez’s team celebrated the outcome as a clear endorsement of his vision for the club’s future.
