The Kwara State Government on Wednesday announced that 176 victims abducted during a February attack had regained their freedom.
Officials confirmed the news in a post on the official Facebook page of the Kwara State Government. The victims came from Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area. They had spent months in captivity following the February 3, 2026 assault.
The state government issued a brief statement. It read, “Alihamdulillaah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!”
Special Assistant to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on New Media Olayinka Fafoluyi also shared the update. He promised further details later.
Meanwhile, authorities provided no immediate information on the exact circumstances of the release.
Suspected Boko Haram-linked extremists invaded the rural communities of Woro and Nuku on February 3. They arrived on motorcycles and launched a coordinated assault that lasted several hours.
The attack ranked among the deadliest in Kwara State history. It reportedly claimed more than 200 lives. Many others suffered injuries. Homes and businesses suffered destruction. Residents fled the area.
Local vigilantes tried to resist the attackers. However, the gunmen overwhelmed them. Some vigilantes were trapped and burnt inside their office.
The abductees included many women and children. Families waited for months as security efforts continued.
