Suspected bandits have abducted the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman of the Rogo Local Government Area, Abdullahi Fanka Beli, during an overnight attack on Beli community in Kano State.
The attack reportedly occurred around 1am on Tuesday when the gunmen invaded the community and opened fire before heading to the APC chairman’s residence.
Reports circulating online said the attackers forced their way into the house, took Beli away and fled the community.
A resident was reportedly killed during the attack, while several others sustained gunshot injuries.
The casualty figures could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report.
Beli is reportedly a close associate of the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, who is from Rogo Local Government Area.
The latest attack is the third reported incident involving suspected bandits in communities across Kano State within three days.
On Sunday, gunmen reportedly attacked Chiromawa in Garun Malam Local Government Area, killing three people and abducting an elderly resident who later escaped from captivity.
On Monday night, another attack was reported in Rantan community in Bebeji Local Government Area, where two residents, including the APC ward chairman, Garba Buba, were reportedly killed.
The attacks have increased security concerns in rural communities across the affected local government areas, with residents calling for stronger measures to prevent further attacks and abductions.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police Command and other security agencies had not issued an official statement confirming the Beli attack or providing details on efforts to rescue the abducted APC chairman.
