Dr Sokonte Davies, a long-time political ally of former Minister of Transportation and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi, has resigned from the ADC and rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Davies, a former governorship aspirant and founding member of the ADC, announced the decision on Wednesday in a statement titled “Return to the Progressive Family: My Decision to Rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
He said the move followed extensive consultations with his family, political associates, constituents and elders. Davies explained that he assessed where he could best serve the political interests of his people and advance the development of Rivers State.
“After extensive consultation with my family, political associates, constituents, and elders, and following the cessation of my membership of the African Democratic Congress recently, I hereby announce my decision to return to the All Progressives Congress, a party in which I was privileged to be a foundational member,” Davies stated.
He described the decision as a homecoming and reaffirmed his commitment to the APC’s founding ideals of democracy, social justice, true federalism, inclusive growth and respect for the rule of law.
Davies said his return was also motivated by the desire to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and to contribute to the political stabilisation of Rivers State.
