Amad Diallo’s Late Goal Gives Ivory Coast Shock Win Over Ecuador

Ivory Coast defeated Ecuador 1-0 in a tense Group E match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Saturday. Manchester United winger Amad Diallo scored the only goal in the 90th minute to secure the victory at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Both teams created chances but struggled to score in the first half. Ecuador hit the crossbar twice while Ivory Coast struck it once. The deadlock persisted as defenses held firm. Ivory Coast players pressed forward after the break. The coach selected Diallo as a substitute in the 56th minute to add attacking threat.

Wilfried Singo delivered a cross into the penalty area in stoppage time. Diallo controlled the ball and fired a left footed shot past diving goalkeeper Hernán Galíndez. The strike gave Ivory Coast its first win against South American opposition at the World Cup. Ecuador entered the match unbeaten in 19 games. The result ended that streak.

Teen defender Yan Diomande earned man-of-the-match honors. He recorded 80 touches, created five chances, and anchored the backline against Ecuador attacks. Tensions rose briefly after a challenge from Ecuador midfielder Moisés Caicedo, but players resolved the incident quickly.

The win marked Africa’s first victory at the 2026 tournament. Ivory Coast, returning to the World Cup after 12 years, now prepares for a tough clash against Germany. Ecuador must regroup after the narrow defeat.
