Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, mobilised stakeholders for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election on Friday.
Akume, who serves as Grand Patron of the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network, led a strategic meeting in Abuja. Meanwhile, Wike held a consultative session with stakeholders of Akpor Kingdom in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. Both efforts aimed to build grassroots support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket in 2027.
Akume told the gathering that the network would canvass support across the zone. “The principal objective of this movement is to canvass support and mobilise a massive turnout for Mr President in the 2027 election,” he said.
Furthermore, he outlined three key activities. These included a North Central Grand Rally set for October 10 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, a medical outreach programme across the zone, and advocacy tours with town hall meetings covering 19 senatorial districts.
Sonny Echono, the National Coordinator of the movement, stressed the region’s goal. “The conversation is no longer simply about whether President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win the North-Central, but about the region positioning itself to deliver the highest number of votes to the President in the 2027 election,” he said.
In Rivers State, Wike urged politicians, traditional rulers, pastors and others to unite. “Obio-Akpor as a whole, whether you are a politician, whether you are a traditional ruler, whether you are a pastor, or whether you are a native doctor, I need everybody now. Because all of them will vote. For the purpose of voting and elections, we must bring everyone together,” he stated.
He also highlighted Wards 15, 16 and 17, which hold over 200 polling units, and directed leaders to appoint unit coordinators for door-to-door mobilisation.
