Abia State Governor Alex Otti received the outgoing and incoming commandants of the Nigerian Navy College of Accounts and Finance in Owerrinta on Thursday. He welcomed them at his office in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South.
Otti first praised the outgoing commandant, Commodore B.U. Quadri. He noted Quadri’s professionalism, dedication and contributions to security and institutional development during a 19-month tour of duty.
The governor then turned to the incoming commandant, Commodore Emmanuel Onu. He urged Onu to build on the gains already recorded and to achieve even more.
Otti said, “All we expect is that you will even do better, like he (outgoing Commandant) has played. As a great man, he wants you to surpass him. Small minds want their successors to do worse, but bright minds want their successors to do better.”
He added that the success of the Nigerian Navy in Abia State remained the success of the state and the country. Therefore the state government would maintain the same level of backing previously given to Quadri.
“You can count on the same support we gave him. You can take it for granted that we will also give you so much support so that you can do well,” Otti stated.
In response, Commodore Emmanuel Onu pledged to sustain the achievements of his predecessor. He described the governor’s support for the Navy as unprecedented and assured the administration of his commitment and loyalty.
Meanwhile, Otti noted that monthly security council meetings would continue to provide a platform for addressing challenges. He also said the state government would formally celebrate the outgoing commandant at a date to be agreed.
The visit marked a smooth handover at the college, which has worked closely with the Abia State Government on security and infrastructure.
