Former Presidential Candidate and Energy Executive, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim,  formally Rejoins the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

According to a report by Eko Hot Blog, although speculations had lingered about his quiet return to the Party, Wednesday marked his first public appearance at the PDP’s Wadata Plaza national secretariat in Abuja, where he met with the National Working Committee (NWC).

Addressing Party leaders, Olawepo-Hashim expressed confidence in the PDP’s ability to bounce back, insisting that the Party remains Nigeria’s most credible opposition force.

“PDP was built as a national platform. Since 1998, it has maintained a presence in almost every polling unit across Nigeria. That national spread is still intact,” he said.

He dismissed fears over the Party’s relevance following internal conflicts and defections, stating that the PDP’s strength lies not in a few powerful individuals but in the masses.

“The real power of any political party lies in its people, not the elite. The people are still with the PDP,” he declared.

Olawepo-Hashim also praised the PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umaru Damagum, for maintaining unity in the party during difficult times.

“The wisdom and calm Damagum has shown to keep the Party intact is truly commendable,” he noted.

Looking at 2027, he urged the Party to present a disciplined and visionary candidate capable of addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

“The PDP must give Nigerians a new kind of leadership — one committed to security, economy, and justice,” he said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Olawepo-Hashim also attended a separate meeting of PDP founding members at the NAF Centre in Abuja.
