The Federal Government has moved to allay fears over the safety of the Oju-Ore Bridge in Ota, Ogun State, after the Federal Ministry of Works dismissed reports claiming that the bridge has structural defects.
The ministry said the bridge had passed the necessary integrity tests and remains structurally sound, effectively rejecting claims that the facility has been compromised or poses a danger to motorists.
The clarification comes as the Ota-Idiroko corridor continues to attract intense public attention because of the ongoing reconstruction works and persistent traffic challenges affecting road users.
The Oju-Ore area is part of a major infrastructure project along the corridor, with construction activities including road rehabilitation, drainage works and bridge development. Residents and motorists have repeatedly called for faster progress and closer government supervision of the project.
The ministry’s position is significant because the Ota-Idiroko route serves as an important commercial corridor linking communities in Ogun State with the Lagos metropolitan area and the Republic of Benin. Heavy traffic on the route means the condition and safety of its infrastructure remain critical to commuters, businesses and transport operators.
Recent reports have documented concerns about the pace of reconstruction and the condition of some unfinished sections of the road. The latest development comes against the background of increased activity around the Oju-Ore and Winners flyovers. Reports indicate that construction on both flyovers has made visible progress, although work on other parts of the wider corridor has continued to generate complaints from road users.
