The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress told Governor Ademola Adeleke on Tuesday to stop blaming President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Gboyega Oyetola for his political challenges. The party issued the call ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Kola Olabisi, Director of Media and Information of the Osun APC, signed the statement. He responded to Adeleke’s remarks at a campaign rally in Olorunda Local Government Area on Monday evening.
At the rally, Adeleke had raised concerns over alleged non-intervention by the president in politically motivated arrests, victimisation and killings of Accord Party members. He also cautioned Oyetola against any attempt to derail democracy through violence.
Olabisi stated that Adeleke should face his self-induced challenges instead of engaging in a blame game. He clarified that the governor’s earlier endorsement of Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election should not serve as an excuse to avoid proper preparation for the state poll.
“We want to remind Governor Adeleke that his recall of the endorsement of President Tinubu as his presidential candidate in the 2027 election wasn’t forced on him and such his decision would not be the reason why he should not be prepared for a free, fair, credible and inclusive forthcoming governorship election in Osun State,” Olabisi said.
He described Adeleke’s allegations against Tinubu and Oyetola as unsubstantiated, misplaced and frivolous. Olabisi added that the claims amounted to an attempt to justify the governor’s imminent defeat at the poll.
Furthermore, Olabisi argued that Adeleke had turned the Government House into a refuge for political hoodlums on the police wanted list. He also accused the governor of empowering dangerous political thugs with appointments.
Olabisi insisted that competition remained strange to Adeleke, which explained his frequent cries of political persecution without tangible proof.
The APC spokesperson noted that the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, would rely on competence. In contrast, he claimed Adeleke had spent nearly four years seeking elusive foreign investors while engaging in other activities.
