US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that the Board of Peace reached an agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza.
A senior Hamas official later confirmed the group’s acceptance to the BBC and said an official statement would follow soon. Israel issued no formal response.
Trump posted on Truth Social that the Board of Peace secured a historic deal for full disarmament. He described it as a major milestone in the Trump 20-Point Plan.
He stated that Israeli forces would withdraw as disarmament was completed. An International Stabilization Force would then work with a new Palestinian police force to secure Gaza. Trump added that the step moved Gaza toward governance by a new Palestinian administration.
The Board of Peace said the deal ended months of intensive negotiations and shifted focus to implementation. Mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey took part.
A senior Hamas official told the BBC that the group agreed to the Board of Peace plan for complete disarmament in Gaza.
Hamas official Ghazi Hamad said the agreement contained a clear provision requiring Israel to meet its obligations. He stated that if Israel did not implement the deal, Hamas would not either.
Hamad added that the group would take no disarmament steps before an Israeli withdrawal and that weapons would go to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza under Palestinian supervision without Israeli involvement.
The roadmap called for inventorying and storage of remaining heavy weapons under Palestinian oversight. Smaller groups would disarm first. Hamas would then dismantle tunnels, weapons depots and production facilities.
Civil and security control would transfer gradually to a technocratic Palestinian body. Full implementation was expected to take several months with verification at each stage.
Israeli officials expressed skepticism in private comments to media outlets. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said the only solution Israel would accept involved encouraging emigration and destroying Hamas.
US officials said Trump would be very disappointed if Israel refused to withdraw under the terms already endorsed in the original 20-point plan. They expressed confidence that Israel would remain a partner.
