Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara declared his support for the Rainbow Coalition led by Nyesom Wike on Wednesday. Fubara made the announcement during a public statement that marked a significant political realignment in the state.
Fubara stated that peace had returned to Rivers State after a period of conflict with his predecessor. He confirmed his return to his political family and endorsed the coalition’s direction.
“I am part of the Rainbow Coalition,” Fubara said. “I am supporting President Bola Tinubu for the presidency and OK Chinda to be the next governor of Rivers State.”
The governor emphasized his backing for the Wike-led group. He added that he had gone back to his political roots. Fubara urged his supporters to align with this decision and dismissed any contrary assumptions. This move followed earlier tensions that led to a state of emergency in 2025.
Fubara’s declaration aligned him with efforts to support Tinubu’s re-election bid. He positioned Kingsley Chinda, a Wike ally who secured an APC primary ticket, as his preferred successor. The Rainbow Coalition, according to earlier statements from Wike, would collectively decide on candidates for the 2027 governorship race.
Political observers noted that several of Fubara’s loyalists had already rejoined the coalition in recent weeks. This development reshaped the landscape ahead of the polls. Fubara stressed unity and called for focus on the coalition’s goals.
