The Independent National Electoral Commission released access codes to political parties on Monday. This step enabled parties to upload the names of their nominated candidates for the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman Professor Joash O. Amupitan oversaw the process. The commission had earlier shifted the release from Friday to Monday. Officials explained that the adjustment ensured smooth access to the candidate nomination portal.
Political parties completed their primaries on May 30. INEC then provided nomination forms. The access codes allowed authorised national officers to log into the portal and submit candidates’ biodata and required details. The upload deadline remained July 11.
Some parties reported initial delays in receiving the codes. However, INEC confirmed the release and urged parties to proceed with uploads promptly. The commission stressed the importance of meeting all timelines in the electoral schedule.
The release of access codes marked a key milestone. Parties could now finalise their candidate lists for presidential, gubernatorial, legislative, and other positions. INEC officials monitored the portal to assist parties during the upload phase.
Professor Joash O. Amupitan had announced the plan during a meeting with party leaders. He stated that the codes would go to authorised officials for secure uploading of nominee information. This followed the completion of party primaries across the country.
Several parties began the process immediately after receiving the codes. The development brought parties closer to full compliance with INEC guidelines ahead of the 2027 polls. INEC continued to engage with parties to resolve any technical issues during uploads.
