Manchester City confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the new manager on Tuesday. The 46-year-old Italian signed a three-year contract that runs until 2029. He succeeds Pep Guardiola, who departed the club at the end of the season after a long and successful tenure.
Football manager Enzo Maresca previously worked at Manchester City. He served as assistant to Pep Guardiola during the 2022-23 treble-winning campaign. Later, Maresca guided Leicester City to promotion from the Championship in 2024.
He then moved to Chelsea, where he won the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup in 2025 before he left the London club in early 2026.
City officials moved quickly after Guardiola announced his exit. They identified Maresca as the ideal candidate because of his deep knowledge of the club’s playing style. Maresca expressed his excitement in a club statement. He said, “I am thrilled to return to Manchester City and lead this incredible squad into the next chapter.”
Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak welcomed the appointment. He stated, “Enzo Maresca understands our philosophy completely. We believe he will maintain the high standards we set.” The deal includes options for performance-related extensions, according to sources close to the negotiations.
Transitioning into the new role, Maresca already began planning for the upcoming transfer window. He aims to build on the existing squad while introducing fresh ideas. Fans reacted positively to the news on social media, as many viewed his return as a natural progression.
This appointment marks the start of a new era at the Etihad Stadium. Maresca will take charge ahead of the 2026-27 Premier League season.
