Otti Says His Government Delivered 414 Roads and Reduced State Debt in Just Three Years

Abia State Governor Alex Otti announced that his administration built 414 roads and reduced the state’s debt by 60 percent within three years. He made the remarks during a monthly address on May 22, 2026.

Governor Alex Otti said his team completed 414 roads across Abia State. He added that workers constructed 82 more roads that covered 212 kilometers and remained under construction. Otti explained that the projects supported a zero-pothole policy with regular maintenance. He noted that these efforts improved conditions in commercial areas such as Aba and Umuahia, where poor roads once slowed trade.

Governor Alex Otti stated that his government cut the state’s debt by 60 percent. He reported that the administration inherited liabilities around 191 billion naira and paid off a large portion without taking new loans. As a result, the debt fell significantly to about 48 billion naira. Otti emphasized that the state avoided fresh borrowing while it funded infrastructure projects.

Governor Alex Otti connected the achievements to careful spending and revenue management. He said the government focused resources on key priorities such as roads.

Residents and observers noted visible changes in several communities after the projects. However, some critics raised questions about exact road locations and lengths, which Otti addressed directly with data during the address.

The developments marked a notable shift in Abia State’s infrastructure and financial management under Governor Alex Otti’s leadership in the three year period.
