Atiku Abubakar Pays N90m as ADC Confirms Presidential Nomination Form Purchase

The African Democratic Congress confirmed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar paid N90 million for the party’s presidential nomination form. Party officials announced the development on Saturday as preparations for the 2027 general elections gathered pace.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, confirmed the payment to journalists. Abdullahi stated that Atiku Abubakar obtained the expression of interest and nomination forms. He added that former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen also purchased the forms.

“The three of them have obtained the forms,” Abdullahi said. The presidential nomination form cost N90 million.

Atiku Abubakar collected the official receipt dated May 8 for the full payment. He planned to present the completed forms formally at the ADC national secretariat in Abuja on Monday. Sources close to the former vice president described the move as a key step in his bid for the party’s ticket.

Meanwhile representatives of Rotimi Amaechi collected his form on Friday at the party secretariat. A former Governor of Edo State, John Odigie-Oyegun, led the team that received the documents from ADC officials. Mohammed Hayatu-Deen also secured his form earlier.

The African Democratic Congress fixed the high nomination fee as part of its process for selecting a presidential candidate. Party leaders released a timetable for primaries that positioned these purchases as early signals of a competitive race. Atiku Abubakar’s entry strengthened the field of experienced politicians seeking the ADC ticket.
