Tracy Ohiri, a businesswoman based in Abuja, previously accused David Umahi, Nigeria’s Minister of Works, of sexual harassment and failure to pay over ₦300 million for campaign materials supplied during his political campaigns. She made these allegations public through social media posts and interviews with select news outlets. The claims sparked widespread discussion across Nigeria’s political landscape and drew responses from various stakeholders.
Ohiri has now publicly withdrawn all allegations against the minister. She released a statement acknowledging that her previous claims lacked substantiation.
“I hereby withdraw all allegations made against Senator David Umahi,” Ohiri stated. “I apologize for any embarrassment or inconvenience caused to him and his family.”
She further explained her decision to recant. “After careful reflection, I realize that my statements were made in error and without proper verification,” she said. “I take full responsibility for my actions.”
David Umahi had consistently denied the allegations from their initial emergence. His media team labeled the claims as baseless attempts to tarnish his reputation.
The minister maintained his innocence throughout the controversy. “These allegations are false and malicious,” Umahi had said in an earlier statement. “I have never engaged in such conduct, and I remain focused on my duties as Minister of Works.”
