I’d rather die than betray my political godfather – Gov Buni

While backstabbing and rofo rofo fight have been the bane of relationship between godfathers and their lackeys in Nigeria’s politics, the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has declared that he would rather die than betray his political benefactor, Ibrahim Gaidam.

‎He made this assertion on Tuesday while addressing delegates at the just-concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) congress held in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

‎According to him, “I would rather die than betray him. I remain deeply grateful to him for the role he played in my political journey. I will never forget where I am coming from, and I will never turn my back on the man who trusted and supported me.”

The Governor pointed out that his political career was built on trust and insisted that betrayal had never been part of his record.

‎“I am a product of trust. I have never betrayed anybody; it is not in my record. I always want to be remembered as someone who never betrays anybody,” he added.

Buni charged newly elected party officials to remain steadfast, urging them to uphold trust and integrity in the discharge of their responsibilities.

‎He also outlined achievements recorded in the past seven years of his administration, particularly in education, primary healthcare, empowerment, and commerce, assuring residents that these sectors would continue to receive priority attention.

As per who takes over from him, Buni called on members of the APC in the state to pray for divine guidance in the emergence of the party’s next governorship candidate.

‎He urged party faithful to support a candidate with the capacity to unite members and sustain the “good works” of his administration.
