Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, declared that Nigeria could undergo a full reset within four years if voters elected him president in 2027.
Makinde made the statement on Monday at the APM North-Central Town Hall Meeting in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital. He addressed party candidates and supporters after a closed-door meeting the previous night.
Makinde told the gathering that his proposed administration would introduce a new security architecture. He added that it would chart a new path for education and rebuild the economy through data, science and logic. The reset would also cover the country’s socio-political environment.
He stated: “The reset agenda can be concluded in four years. We had someone who was head of state in this country for 10 months, and he was able to end military rule and usher in the democracy we now enjoy in Nigeria.”
Makinde continued: “We can reset and give Nigeria a new security architecture, a new path for education, our economy utilising data, science and logic, and our socio-political environment in four years.”
Looking ahead, Makinde explained the approach his team would take after the 2027 election. “So, as your president from May 29, 2027, we will run a transitional government of national unity that will culminate in new players and an agenda for Nigeria’s sustainable development,” he said.
Earlier on X, Makinde confirmed the location of the event. He wrote that the team was in Lafia for the town hall and had held a closed-door meeting with APM candidates in the North Central Zone. He added that they would work together to reset Nigeria so that it works for all Nigerians.
The town hall formed part of the APM’s zonal engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections. Makinde presented the party’s Reset Nigeria agenda as the central focus of the campaign.
