Wike Rejects Endorsement Claims, Defers to Elders Ahead of 2027 Polls

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike denied endorsing any governorship candidate for Rivers State. He addressed stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja, on Monday night.

Wike stated clearly that he had not adopted or endorsed any individual for the 2027 governorship race. He added that such decisions would rest with party elders after proper consultations.

Wike told the gathering that he would not endorse candidates for either the PDP or the APC at the state level until elders met to take a collective decision. He emphasized the need for unity and coordination among stakeholders.

He commended council chairmen, Rivers elders, and leaders of both parties for mobilizing people for the meeting. Wike noted that the absence of complaints about inclusiveness showed the success of the gathering.

The meeting brought together APC and PDP stakeholders from Rivers State. Wike hosted them to foster dialogue ahead of future political activities.

He highlighted that the political family remained fully united. Wike also used the occasion to reaffirm support for President Bola Tinubu while focusing on state-level matters.

Rumors had circulated about possible endorsements, including claims involving officials like Boma Iyaye of the Niger Delta Development Commission. Wike made it plain that he had not backed any aspirant.

He insisted that the elders council would guide the process. This approach, he said, would prevent hasty or individual decisions in the lead-up to the 2027 polls.

Wike spoke amid continued political realignments in Rivers State. His comments came after several thank-you visits and stakeholder engagements across local government areas.

Lawmakers and party leaders received the message with attention. They expected further consultations with the elders council in the coming months.

Wike maintained that politics in Rivers State should allow internal processes to determine candidates without external interference.
