Wave of Defections Hits Jigawa as APC, PDP, NNPP Members Move to ADC

Jigawa State politicians from major parties switched allegiance on April 5 2026. They joined the African Democratic Congress in Dutse. Sabo Muhammad Nakudu, former senator who represented Jigawa Central, led the group. He resigned from the All Progressives Congress days earlier. Nakudu received his ADC membership card at the event.

Additionally Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, former NNPP gubernatorial candidate and PDP candidate in previous elections, prepared to defect. Senator Ubale Shittu, who once belonged to the PDP before moving to APC, participated in the ceremony.

Nakudu spoke to supporters. He said, “I am grateful to my supporters for turning out en masse to receive me into my new party.” He added, “I promise to work towards a greater Jigawa and the country at large.” The former senator declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election under the ADC.

Meanwhile other defectors from the APC included Bala Ibrahim Chamo, former chairman of Dutse Local Government, Zakari Kafin Hausa, former special adviser to Governor Umar Namadi, Zahraddeen Abubakar, former chairman of Gwaram Local Government, and Shehu Sule Udi, ex-chairman of Ringim Local Government.

Ahmad Gumel, Jigawa State ADC coordinator, welcomed the defectors. He called the move a major boost to the party. Bashir Jumbo, an ADC chieftain, stated, “We pledge equal opportunities within the party structure.” He urged unity and added, “We must take over power in 2027 by the grace of God.”

However Umar Kyari, PDP public relations officer, dismissed the defectors. Kyari described them as a group of political jokers seeking relevance. Bashir Kundu, APC spokesperson, attributed the switches to personal interests.
