Bayern Munich crushed Atalanta 6-1 in the first of their UEFA Champions League round-of-16 tie on March 10, 2026. The victory at Stadio di Bergamo left the German side with a huge advantage ahead of the return leg at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanisic opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Serge Gnabry provided the assist from a corner. Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Olise then curled home the second goal in the 22nd minute after Dayot Upamecano played him in. Moreover, Olise set up Serge Gnabry for the third just three minutes later
Bayern Munich forward Nicolas Jackson made it 4-0 in the 52nd minute. Luis Diaz supplied the pass on the break. Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Olise added his second goal in the 64th minute.
Alphonso Davies assisted before he left the field injured. Jamal Musiala completed the rout in the 67th minute with a volley after Nicolas Jackson set him up.

Mario Pasalic pulled one back for Atalanta in the 90th minute plus three. The goal offered little consolation on a difficult night for the hosts.
Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany explained the approach. “There is still the second leg to play, so we have to stay focused,” he said. “The key tonight was finding the right approach to the game. Our man-to-man coverage was very important tactically.”
Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Olise, named player of the match, shared his thoughts. “It was a really good game and I feel very good,” he stated. “Personally, I think I played well and it was a solid performance.”
Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich added detail on the flow. “We needed about five minutes to really get into the game,” he noted. “After that, we created one big chance after another. It was a very strong performance today.”
Atalanta head coach Raffaele Palladino addressed the defeat. “We are proud of the path we have taken so far,” he said. “Of course we are disappointed with the result because it is not what we wanted. Bayern are a very strong team.”
