Troops from Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke conducted a raid on a bandits’ hideout in Mtan Village, Utange Council Ward, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State. The operation followed credible intelligence about the activities of a notorious bandit leader who operated from the location.
The troops advanced to the site and engaged the armed suspects in a fierce gun battle. After the exchange of gunfire, the suspects fled the area. No casualties occurred among the troops during the confrontation.
The troops then exploited the area and destroyed the hideout. They recovered several items during the sweep. The seized items included two motorcycles believed to belong to the notorious bandit, eight magazines, 162 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm special ammunition, 10 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammunition, and 44 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Additionally, they recovered links of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, seven empty 7.62mm NATO cartridge casings, and a red Toyota vehicle. The troops demobilised the vehicle to prevent its further use in criminal activities.
Ahmad Zubairu, acting media information officer at the headquarters of the Joint Task Force, announced the details in a statement on February 15, 2026. Moses Gara, force commandant of the Joint Task Force, commended the intelligence team for the timely information that enabled the success. He also praised the troops for their resilience and professionalism in confronting the criminal elements. Gara urged residents to sustain collaboration with security agencies and provide credible information to support efforts against terrorism and other crimes in the region.
