The Jays are underdog this series — and that’s part of the appeal
The Jays’ unlikely road to playing in the 2025 World Series after finishing at the bottom of their division last year is part of their appeal, according to one longtime sports journalist.
Stephen Brunt has been writing about sports since the 1980s.
“Part of what you do as a sports fan, you look for through lines, for narratives. You look for a story,” Brunt said during an interview with CBC’s Cross Country Checkup.
Brunt says the team’s slow-but-steady path to the World Series has been fascinating to watch, especially with a roster of “guys who aren’t supposed to be stars.”
“Then … not in a dramatic way at first, but in kind of a subtle way, they start to play better and they start to win games and belief builds,” he said.
“And then a beautiful, slow build … right to Game 162 before they clinch the division. You couldn’t script that.”
