President Bola Tinubu nominated retired Admiral Jamila Abubakar to represent Adamawa State as national commissioner at the Independent National Electoral Commission. He acted in compliance with section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
President Bola Tinubu sent the nomination in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Lawmakers read the letter at plenary on Tuesday February 17 2026. President Bola Tinubu urged the Senate to consider and confirm the nominee expeditiously.
Additionally, President Bola Tinubu requested the confirmation of Ambassador Ismail Yusuf as chairman and chief executive officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. He forwarded this nomination in a separate letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Ambassador Ismail Yusuf previously served as Nigeria’s ambassador to Türkiye from 2021 to 2024. He will replace Abdullahi Usman who resigned after 14 months in the position. President Bola Tinubu cited section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act in the request.
