Taraba judicial commission promotes 535 staff, demotes two officials

The Taraba State Judicial Service Commission, TSJC, has approved the promotion of 535 staff.

Apart from the promotions, the commission confirmed several senior appointments, and demoted two officers over disciplinary issues.

This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Jalingo by the Secretary to the Commission, Hajia Talatu Abubakar, following the commission’s 125th meeting chaired by the Chief Judge of Taraba State, Justice Joel Agya.

The statement added that the commission unanimously adopted the report of its Promotion Sub-Committee and approved the promotion of 535 staff across various cadres in the Taraba State Judiciary.

On disciplinary matters, the commission sanctioned Assauten Abason, a Senior Magistrate II on Grade Level 13, by stripping him of his judicial functions and demoting him to the rank of Senior Registrar on Grade Level 10 with effect from Dec. 19, 2025. He was also recalled to the High Court Headquarters for a period of two years.

Another officer, William Jakwanti, was demoted from Registrar I on Grade Level 9 to Assistant Registrar on Grade Level 7. The commission further directed his recall to headquarters and ordered him to refund the sum of N40,000 to one Musa Audu.
