State House Under Fire Over ₦10m Spent on Two Pressing Irons for Shettima’s Office

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s State House spent ₦10 million on two pressing irons. The funds supported operations in Vice President Kashim Shettima’s office.

State House officials released the money on June 24 2023. They transferred ₦5 million for each industrial pressing iron from the State House Headquarters Transit Account to Riteddy Resources Limited. The payment fell under State House Operations for the Vice President. Records listed no detailed specifications for the equipment.

A civic tech platform called GovSpend uncovered the entry. The platform published the transaction details from public budget data. Authorities offered no breakdown of features or reasons for the high cost. A State House spokesperson who spoke on condition of anonymity said the purchase met standard office needs.

Furthermore the platform showed related high value items across agencies. The Pension Transitional Arrangement Department spent ₦6.8 million on 20 liters of groundnut oil on May 26 2025. Additionally the Debt Management Office paid ₦52.1 million for tea supplies in 2025.

The Nigeria Police Force under Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun expended over ₦239.4 million on food items that year.

Meanwhile civic groups used such platforms to monitor public funds. They called for full accountability in government procurement. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration handled these reported transactions as part of broader operations.
