Southampton Stun Arsenal 2-1 to Reach FA Cup Semi-Finals

Southampton knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup quarter-finals. The seventh-placed Championship side won 2-1 against the Premier League leaders at St Mary’s Stadium on April 4 2026. Southampton advanced to the semi-finals with the victory.

Ross Stewart scored the opening goal for Southampton in the 35th minute. James Bree delivered the assist. Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert saw his team take advantage of Arsenal mistakes in the first half. The home crowd erupted in celebration.

Arsenal responded after the break. Viktor Gyokeres equalized in the 68th minute. The striker converted a chance to make the score 1-1. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta urged his players forward from the touchline. However, the visitors could not maintain control.

Shea Charles came off the bench and scored the winner in the 85th minute. Tom Fellows supplied the assist. Southampton defended stoutly in the closing stages. They secured the win in front of 31,067 fans.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta spoke after the match. He said the team started poorly. “We did not perform to our standards and Southampton fully deserved the win today,” Arteta said.

Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert expressed pride in his squad. “The players showed tremendous spirit and quality throughout the game,” Eckert said. “This victory belongs to them and the fans.”

The result ended Arsenal’s FA Cup campaign. Southampton continued their run as they prepared for the semi-finals.
