Real Madrid Knock Out Man City with 2–1 Champions League Win

Real Madrid defeated Manchester City 2-1 in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie on Tuesday. The result sent the Spanish club into the quarter-finals with a comfortable 5-1 aggregate victory.

Real Madrid built a strong lead from the first leg and protected their advantage at the Etihad Stadium with clinical finishing.

Vinicius Junior gave Real Madrid the lead in the 22nd minute from the penalty spot. The Brazilian forward converted calmly after a foul inside the box.

Manchester City responded strongly and equalised in the 41st minute when Erling Haaland headed home from a set piece. The goal brought the home crowd to life and narrowed the aggregate gap.

Real Madrid regained control after the break. They defended resolutely and waited for opportunities on the counter. In the 90th minute plus three, Vinicius Junior steered in a low cross from Aurelien Tchouameni to make it 2-1 on the night. The strike ended any hopes of a Manchester City comeback and confirmed the tie result.

Manchester City pressed hard throughout the second half but created few clear chances against a solid Real Madrid defence. The English side had dominated possession at times yet failed to find the required goals. Thibaut Courtois made important saves that kept the visitors ahead on aggregate.

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke after the match. He said the team showed great character and discipline to secure qualification.

Vinicius Junior added his own comment and praised the collective effort that delivered the late winner and clean progression to the next round.

The victory marked another European success for Real Madrid against English opposition. They now await the quarter-final draw while Manchester City exit the competition at the round of 16 stage.
