On July 23, 2025, the Daily Trust reported that the Kwara State Police Command had arrested a person who had been caught making large purchases of food and beverages that were obviously meant for criminals.
After being discovered making odd purchases of grilled meat and drinks, reportedly to transport them to people involved in kidnapping and banditry, a guy was arrested by Kwara State police. According to authorities, the individual had already purchased N20,000 worth of grilled meat and large quantities of other alcoholic beverages before his arrest.
According to reports, the accused, Patigi town resident Yaman Patigi, 36, was stopped the week before. According to reports, he was en route his mission to deliver supplies like spaghetti, alcohol, cigarettes, medications, and other commodities to a place in Patigi Local Government Area that is known to be a hiding place for armed groups. Recently released former hostages told Daily Trust that they were only given little amounts of spaghetti while they were in custody. According to community members, the suspect attempted to justify his behaviour by claiming that the products were intended for Fulani people who lived in a remote area of the region.
Both Hon. Ahmed Rufai, Chairman of Patigi Area Council, and local leader, Mr. Muhammad Ndako confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect had been turned over to the proper authorities. Kwara State Police Commissioner Adekimi Ojo told reporters that the man’s odd behaviour at the point of purchase had sparked suspicions. “Kwara residents are now more vigilant. They observed someone purchasing suya for roughly N20,000 and drinking excessively, and they inquired why. The suspect was arrested as a result of his unsatisfactory response, which sparked additional suspicion, according to the CP.
