President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Jos on April 2 2026 and ordered the immediate installation of more than 5 000 surveillance cameras across Plateau State. The directive followed a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba Jos North Local Government Area that killed over 27 people on Palm Sunday.
Gunmen struck the community on March 30 2026 and left residents in mourning. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described the killings as barbaric during a town hall meeting with political and traditional leaders. He directed security chiefs to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
“You must unearth and find the killers” President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stated. He noted the presence of the Inspector General of Police the Chief of Defence Staff and the Minister of Defence at the meeting.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the massive CCTV rollout to strengthen law enforcement. “The Honourable Minister for Communication is here to give you assurance that we are going to install immediately a network of cameras that will help the law enforcement agencies to identify the troublemakers instantly over 5 000 of that” he declared.
Minister of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy Dr Bosun Tijani confirmed the plan. Dr Bosun Tijani added that officials would work with Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang to expand the system from Jos to the rest of the state. He cited successful similar projects already running in Lagos and Enugu.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also promised support for victims. He met a grieving mother named Rhoda who lost her son and assured her of government help.
“Immediately we return to Abuja the committee as mentioned will include the governor and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs” he explained. “Take numeric analysis. You are a data person for the victims. Let’s see what we can do for their losses.”
