PDP dissolves party structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Rivers

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has dissolved its structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.

DAILY POST reports that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state moved the motion for the dissolution at the PDP national convention in Ibadan, the state capital, to validate the executives elected through congresses conducted across the country.

According to the governor, congresses held between 2024 and 2025 produced officers at the ward, LG, state and zonal levels, including national ex-officio members.

Makinde further stated that the exercises were peaceful and largely compliant with the Electoral Act 2022, the PDP constitution and the party’s internal rules.

He added that the National Executive Committee, NEC, and the National Working Committee, NWC, had already endorsed the congresses and the elected officials.

Makinde said, despite the process, the party had now resolved to disband its structures in the five affected states.

“In the case of Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom and Rivers, the convention hereby dissolves all party structures at the ward, local government and state levels.

“The convention has authorised the publication of this decision to serve as formal notice to the public,” he said.

The National auditor and member of the NWC, Daniel Okechukwu, seconded the motion at the convention ground.
