Members of the Nigeria Forest Security Service in Osun State declared support for President Bola Tinubu re-election in 2027. They also backed the governorship ambition of Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress candidate for the 2026 election.
The group announced the endorsement after a meeting with APC leaders at the Tinubu-Shettima campaign office in Osogbo on Monday.
Nureni Ahmed, the Osun NFSS chairman, led the hunters. He stated that members would mobilise voters actively. “We are going to be fully involved in mobilising voters and working with other groups to ensure victory,” Ahmed said. “We are about 8,000 in this state, and we have families and friends we can mobilise.”
Remi Omowaiye, the executive director of project implementation at the Federal Housing Authority, spoke on behalf of Oyebamiji. He explained that the hunters appealed to President Bola Tinubu to assent to the Nigeria Forest Security Service bill. The 10th National Assembly passed the bill earlier.
Omowaiye added that the group sought stronger collaboration to tackle insecurity in Osun State and across Nigeria. “They came to reiterate the need for collaboration in addressing insecurity in Osun and also urged the President to assent to the Nigeria Forest Security Service bill,” he said.
Hammed Nurein, the coordinator of the hunters, moved the motion for endorsement. Members supported it in a voice vote and offered traditional prayers for victory. Nurein later told journalists, “We implore President Bola Tinubu to sign our bill into law; this will strengthen security and the federal government’s efforts in combating terrorism and insecurity.”
Omowaiye expressed confidence in the partnership. “I strongly believe the hunters will do what they have promised,” he noted. “We will also ensure we work with them to improve the security situation of Osun and Nigeria.”
The hunters highlighted their role in fighting banditry and other threats through the proposed law. Political groups continue to align ahead of the polls.
