President of the Orlu General Assembly, Toronto, Canada, Mr Uche Ukachukwu, has reminded members of the organization of the importance of remembering where they come from and the power of coming together to celebrate what makes them unique.
The highly respected leader, who stated the above in Toronto, Canada, on the occasion of the celebration of the 2025 edition of Orlu General Assembly’s Cultural Day, informed that it is through such events that the future generations of Orlu people can be inspired to cherish and preserve their rich heritage.
While calling on the people of the Zone to be one another’s keepers, Mr. Ukachukwu added that the essence of Igbo migration and networking with other races of the world was to gain the necessary financial strength, education, ingenuity as well as the experience and exposure to better our home country and people.
“We are a unique people. Every Orlu man is hard working. We abhor criminal activities and every act of indecency that has the potential to bring shame on us and our families.
“Therefore, despite being abroad, we must never forget where we are coming from. Everyone of us must bear in mind their home and remember that you are here as the light of that family that is praying for your success and safe return home someday.
” I call on us all to be true Orlu sons and daughters wherever we may be in this country and no matter what field of endeavour we may be engaged in. We all know the hallmarks of true Orlu people. Let us display those virtues here at all times and in all circumstances to the pride of our home country and people, “the President stressed.
The OGA 2025 Cultural Day event was characterised by a remarkable display of indigenous ideals, songs, fun and local delicacies.
The theme of this year’s celebration:” Uplifting the Less Privileged Youth in Orlu Zone Through Skills Acquisition Training,” spoke directly to the realities of what is today confronting the Zone in Nigeria and highlighted the place of self-development for gainful employment and lifelong livelihoods.
The theme enjoined the youth of Orlu Zone in Nigeria’s Imo State to move beyond the issues of insecurity and violence, which have characterised the Zone in recent times, to learn vocational skills that ensure sustainable living and personal comfort.
Among the dignitaries that participated in the well-attended event were the Governor of Imo State, Nigeria, Sen. Hope Uzodinma. He was represented on the occasion by the Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Jerry Egemba. Also in attendance were the Vice President of Clarion Shipping West Africa Ltd., Mrs Bernadine Eloka, and the Chairman of Jecmek Int’l Ltd., Chief John Chukwu as well as the Royal Father of the Day, His Royal Highness, Eze Remmy Maduwube (Ukadike II), whose royal presence added traditional colour to the august event.
The event featured cultural dances, friendly parleys, pleasantries and the display of nostalgic movements that reminded one of home by traditional Igbo masquerades of Southeast Nigeria.
