The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, conferred the chieftaincy title of Utukpa-Oritse of Warri Kingdom upon Oluremi Tinubu, the first lady of Nigeria. The ceremony took place at the monarch’s palace and marked a significant moment in the cultural relationship between the Warri Kingdom and the nation’s highest office.
The palace explained that Utukpa-Oritse, also known as Ugbọnẹ́, carries deep symbolic meaning. According to the royal household, the title represents heritage, service, and royal recognition within the Itsekiri tradition. Furthermore, the honor reflected the first lady’s contributions to national development and her role in supporting the current administration.
The Olu of Warri spoke about the decision to honor the first lady. He stated, “This title symbolizes heritage, service, and royal recognition.” The monarch added that the conferment acknowledged Tinubu’s dedication to the welfare of Nigerians and her commitment to humanitarian causes across the country.
Oluremi Tinubu accepted the title with gratitude. She remarked, “I am deeply honored to receive this prestigious title from the Warri Kingdom.” The first lady also expressed appreciation for the warm reception she received from the Itsekiri people during her visit to the palace.
