The Nigeria Football Federation announced on Thursday that the Super Eagles would play two high-profile international friendlies in June. Officials released the schedule to help the team prepare for upcoming competitions.
Nigeria Football Federation Director of Communications Ademola Olajire issued the statement in Abuja. He called the matches important tests against top European teams.
FIFA match agent for the NFF Jairo Pachon of Eurodata Sport confirmed the details. The Super Eagles would face Poland on June 3 at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw. They would then travel to Portugal for the second game on June 10 at a venue to be announced later.
Ademola Olajire stated that these fixtures were very important for the team. He said the games would build momentum and cohesion ahead of major competitions. He added that the encounters would give the technical crew a chance to test new players and tactical approaches.
Moreover, Ademola Olajire noted that playing Poland and Portugal would allow the squad to measure its strength against quality sides. He explained that the results would help coaches make necessary adjustments.
The Super Eagles entered the friendlies on the back of a busy international window in Antalya, Turkey. They defeated Iran by 2-1 with goals from Moses Simon and Akor Adams. They then drew 2-2 with Jordan after surrendering a second-half lead.
Head coach Eric Chelle used those matches to assess squad depth and give opportunities to emerging talents. The team would also defend its title at the Unity Cup Tournament in London from May 26 to May 30 before the June games.
Ademola Olajire expressed confidence in the plan. He said the matches would sharpen the team and position it strongly for the challenges ahead. Portugal, a team bound for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, would use the Nigeria clash as one of its final preparations.
