FCT Minister Nyesom Wike declared the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party over. He made the statement during the PDP National Convention in Abuja. Wike added that the party opened its doors for returnees who wanted to rejoin.
The Peoples Democratic Party faced months of leadership disputes and defections. Several governors and members left the party for the All Progressives Congress. Wike addressed delegates at the convention and stated that loyal members reclaimed the PDP. He described the party as returned to its rightful owners, the people.
Wike spoke on Sunday night. He said, “We have started the healing process.” He noted that the convention marked a turning point after the party nearly collapsed. Party leaders, including former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido and other chieftains, pushed for reconciliation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wike urged defected governors to return the mandates they won on the PDP platform. He declared, “All of you who took our mandate, we will take it back.” He questioned the courage of those who left during the crisis. Wike added that true leadership required firmness and commitment.
He warned that defectors showed weakness when they could not withstand internal challenges. Wike stressed that the PDP would rebuild through unity and inclusiveness. He invited those he previously disagreed with to join the rebuilding effort.
Wike assured members that reconciliation would continue beyond the convention. He declared the crisis over and opened the doors for returnees. He said the future of the party must build on unity, renewal, and equal opportunity for all.
Wike emphasized that no one would face exclusion. He called for grassroots participation and renewed loyalty to the party’s ideals. He also assured that the PDP would feature on the ballot in the 2027 general elections.
Party stakeholders at the convention welcomed the message. They viewed the event as a step toward stability after prolonged disputes. Wike ended his address by urging everyone to commit sacrificially to a new era of purpose for the PDP.
