Kebbi gov’t directs closure of all schools amid raising insecurity

The Kebbi State government has directed the closure of all schools, including tertiary institutions in the state

This was confirmed exclusively to DAILY POST by Yahaya Sarki, the Special Adviser to Governor Nasir Idris on Sunday.

The directive is coming barely a week after the abduction of students in Maga.

“The directive is to shut down all schools – both secondary schools and tertiary institutions.”

The government had earlier assured that progress was being made in the rescue efforts of the girls.

Sarki also confirmed that the military is on top of their game to rescue the girls safe.

He urged residents to always support the efforts of Governor Nasir Idris to safeguard their lives.

He assured that nothing will be spared in bringing the girls back home.

Also releasing details of the shutdown, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Issa Abubakar-Tunga, and the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Bande said in a statement issued on Sunday that shutting the schools became necessary “following the recent cases of attacks in parts of the state.”

The affected tertiary institutions include Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari; Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero; College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega; Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu; and the School of Remedial Studies, Yauri.

They clarified that, “the only institution not affected is College of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery located in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi.”

The commissioners called on all school managements to comply with the directive and remain calm, noting that a new resumption date “will be communicated in due course.”
