JUST IN: PDP Tension Rises as Court Orders Arrest of Turaki

A Federal Capital Territory High Court ordered the arrest of Kabiru Turaki on Thursday. Turaki serves as the factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party. The court took the step because he failed to appear for his arraignment in a case filed by the Inspector-General of Police.

Justice U.P. Kekemeke, the trial judge, ruled that Turaki had no justification for missing the court session. Kekemeke issued the arrest warrant immediately after the hearing. The decision came during proceedings in the FCT High Court in Abuja.

The Inspector-General of Police brought the case against Turaki. Police charged him with providing false information in a petition dated October 2022. The one-count charge marked FCT/HC/CR/647/25 accuses Turaki of misleading authorities with the document. Turaki, a former minister, did not attend the scheduled arraignment despite the summons.

The police case originated from the 2022 petition Turaki submitted. Investigators later determined the information was false. As a result, the Inspector-General of Police filed formal charges and sought Turaki’s appearance in court. Turaki’s absence forced the judge to act.

Court officials confirmed the arrest warrant remains active. Police must now locate and arrest Turaki to bring him before the court. The development adds pressure on the factional PDP leadership amid ongoing party disputes.

No statement from Turaki or his legal team emerged immediately after the ruling. The court adjourned further proceedings pending his appearance. Legal experts noted that such warrants compel defendants to face charges without delay. The case continues to highlight tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party.
