Nigeria’s Super Eagles fought back from an early deficit but settled for a 2-2 draw against Jordan in an international friendly on Tuesday night at the Mardan Sports Complex. The match ended with drama when substitute Alex Iwobi received a straight red card in stoppage time.
Jordan took the lead in the 17th minute. Mousa Al-Tamari scored after a pass from Noor Al-Rawabdeh. The goal exposed gaps in Nigeria’s defense early on. However, the Super Eagles responded quickly. Moses Simon equalized in the 25th minute with a clinical finish. Simon’s strike shifted momentum toward Nigeria.
Emmanuel Fernandez then put Nigeria ahead before halftime. Fernandez scored in the 41st minute to make the score 2-1. The first half ended with Nigeria in control after they overturned Jordan’s early advantage.
Jordan pressed in the second half. Substitute Mohammad Al Daoud leveled the score in the 77th minute. Al Daoud’s goal came 13 minutes from time and exposed defensive lapses that allowed Jordan to fight back.
Alex Iwobi entered the game as a substitute around the hour mark. He replaced Raphael Onyedika. In the 90th minute, a foul halted Iwobi’s progress. Frustrated, Iwobi pushed his opponent, sparking a confrontation.
Players and staff from both sides rushed onto the pitch. Turkish referee Atilla Karaoglan showed Iwobi a straight red card in stoppage time. Iwobi’s dismissal left Nigeria with 10 men for the final moments.
The Super Eagles dominated large parts of the match but failed to secure a win. Jordan, preparing for the FIFA World Cup, held firm and earned a valuable draw. Nigeria ended the game without adding to their lead despite earlier control.
The result left fans disappointed after Nigeria’s recent 2-1 win over Iran. Coach Eric Chelle used the friendly to test his squad amid injuries.
The match provided preparation for both teams in Antalya, Turkey. Jordan celebrated their resilience while Nigeria reflected on missed opportunities and the late red card incident.
