Manchester City have failed to close the gap between themselves and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League, after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola’s men had played out a goalless draw at Sunderland to start 2026 and were falling behind the Gunners in the title race.
Against managerless Chelsea, City failed to make their dominance count, even though they opened the scoring through Tijjani Reijnders.
Erling Haaland and Phil Foden missed good chances to extend their lead, before Enzo Fernandes ghosted in at the far post to equalize in added time.
The result sees City go back to second place, but they are now level with Aston Villa, only ahead on goal difference.
Both City and Villa are six points behind Arsenal after 20 fixtures.
Chelsea are in fifth place with 31 points.
