Six minutes later Marc Guehi made it 2-0. He fired a right-footed shot from the centre of the box. Cherki supplied the assist once more. City exploited space created by high pressing.
Jérémy Doku added the third goal in the 68th minute. He slotted a left-footed finish from close range. The strike followed a swift counterattack. City then controlled possession and ran down the clock.
Manchester City held 64 percent of the ball. They fired 18 shots and put eight on target. Chelsea managed only three shots on goal. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma remained largely untroubled throughout the afternoon.
The win took Manchester City to 64 points from 31 games. The three points cut the gap to leaders Arsenal to six. Arsenal sat on 70 points from 32 matches. Chelsea remained sixth on 48 points after 32 games.
The home side created little threat. They struggled to break City lines in both halves. Substitutions in the final third failed to spark a comeback. The defeat left Chelsea with plenty of work ahead in the remaining fixtures.
