Former Bayelsa State Governor Senator Henry Seriake Dickson welcomed prominent All Progressives Congress members who defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress. The reception took place at a mega rally at the NDC secretariat along Isaac Boro Expressway. Dickson serves as the national leader of the NDC.
High Chief Selekebina Saboh, former chairman of Ekeremor Local Government Area, led the APC defectors. He brought more than 10,200 supporters from across Bayelsa State.
Additionally, Wisdom Fafi, a serving member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly from Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency 2, joined the NDC. The group resigned from the APC and aligned with the NDC during the well attended ceremony.
Senator Moses Cleopas, the national chairman of the NDC, addressed the gathering. Cleopas described the party as a Noah’s Ark that offers hope and direction for the oppressed and marginalised. He commended the defectors for their bold and timely decision.
Furthermore, Bayelsa State Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Dauperebo Ikuromo, welcomed the new members. Ikuromo praised their courage and noted that the influx marks a turning point in the state’s political firmament.
Saboh explained his decision. He cited love, admiration and confidence in Dickson’s leadership strides over the years. Saboh pledged to mobilise support across his constituency. Fafi added that his move stemmed from admiration for Dickson, whom he described as a leader committed to the welfare of the people.
He stated that the ideology of the NDC is rooted in Dickson’s vision of prioritising service to humanity. Fafi expressed optimism that residents of Kolokuma/Opokuma would reap the dividends of democracy.
The defection strengthened the NDC structure as preparations intensified for upcoming elections. Party officials reported continued growth from major parties.
