Customs seizes 25kg Cocaine worth N1bn at Seme Border

The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted 25 kilograms of cocaine valued at more than N1 billion at the Seme border in Lagos State, arresting one suspect in connection with the seizure.

According to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, who was represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Enforcement, Timi Bomodi, the arrest occurred in the early hours of February 10, 2026, when officers stopped a Toyota Highlander carrying 22 packages suspected to contain the narcotic along the Badagry–Seme route.

He emphasised that the seizure aligns with Section 55(1)(c) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, which empowers the agency to enforce prohibitions on imports and exports to protect human, animal and plant health.

The confiscated drugs, the vehicle and the arrested suspect were handed over to the NDLEA Lagos Strategic Command.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, praised the officers’ vigilance and professionalism, stating that the interception demonstrates the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public health and national security.
