Critics must talk, I didn’t have gun when accused of killing opposition – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his resolve to collaborate closely with the 10th Senate to ensure that the Nigeria entity succeeds, adding that they are committed to the welfare and prosperity of the country.

He stated this Wednesday evening during an interfaith breakfast with senators at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Tinubu told the lawmakers, “We are facing terrorism, banditry, and insurgency. But we will never fail to make a right response to this cause. What I will ask for tonight is for you (Senators) to start thinking about how best to amend the constitution to incorporate state police for us to secure our country, take over our forests from marauders, free our children from fear.”

The President commended the cordial relationship between the executive and the Senate, saying that unity is needed to defeat terrorism and banditry in the country.

“All your support I’ve enjoyed I will continue to enjoy it without taking you for granted while you’re careful with banana peels too and being effective lawmakers,” he however warned.

In an apparent reference to the perception of the Senator Godswill Akpabio-led Senate as pliant and a rubber stamp, Tinubu said, “Critics must talk. When they accused me of killing the opposition, I didn’t have a gun. I could have given myself the licence when I have the authority, but I can’t blame anybody for jumping out of a sinking ship.”
