President Bola Tinubu approved the postings of 65 ambassadors designate and high commissioners to various countries and the United Nations. He took the decision months after the Senate confirmed all nominees in December 2025.
Additionally, the appointees included 34 non career ambassadors and 31 career diplomats from the foreign service.
Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode secured his posting to Germany. Similarly, presidential aide Reno Omokri moved to Mexico City in Mexico.
Furthermore, former Katsina State Governor Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Dambazau went to Beijing in China. Senator Jimoh Ibrahim took up duty as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga signed the announcement on Thursday. Bayo Onanuga stated that President Bola Tinubu directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to start an induction programme for the ambassadors designate right away.
Moreover, Bayo Onanuga revealed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs already received agrément from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner designate Aminu Dalhatu. France also sent agrément for Ambassador Ayodele Oke.
Bayo Onanuga added, “The Ministry has also conveyed the nominations of the other 62 designated envoys to all the countries concerned, including a request for their agréments in line with standard diplomatic practice.”
The new diplomats will take up their roles after they obtain formal approval known as agrément from their host nations. President Bola Tinubu instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to proceed with all necessary steps without delay.
This completed the first full deployment of ambassadors since the nominations reached the Senate.
