Kebbi State House of Assembly Speaker Muhammad Usman Zuru died on Monday night in a Cairo hospital. He had received treatment there for an undisclosed illness. Assembly official Murtala Diri issued a press statement that confirmed the passing. Diri wrote that the death marked a significant loss to his constituents, the legislative body, and the state in general.
Muhammad Usman Zuru, popularly known as Lifiddan Zuru, represented Zuru Constituency. He served as Speaker of the 10th Kebbi State House of Assembly. Lawmakers and residents viewed him as a prominent figure in the Zuru Emirate and a dedicated leader in state politics.
Sources close to the Kebbi State Government first confirmed the news. Aide to Governor Nasir Idris on Communication and Strategy Idris Zuru described the incident as shocking.
Idris Zuru stated, “The death of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, came to us as a rude shock. It is a painful loss not only to Kebbi State but to the entire nation.” He added that the government still gathered full details and would release an official statement soon.
The Kebbi State Government and the deceased’s family will announce burial arrangements after the repatriation of his remains from Egypt. Officials expect Governor Nasir Idris to issue a formal condolence message.
