Bayern Munich defeated Real Madrid 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.
The game remained goalless until late in the first half. Bayern Munich winger Luis Diaz broke the deadlock in the 41st minute. He finished a swift counter-attack. Striker Harry Kane, who returned from an ankle injury, played a key role in the build-up.
Bayern Munich extended their advantage immediately after the break. Harry Kane scored just 20 seconds into the second half. The England captain made it 2-0 and took his season tally to 49 goals. The early strike stunned the home crowd and shifted momentum firmly toward the visitors.
Real Madrid responded strongly. Forward Kylian Mbappe pulled a goal back in the 74th minute. He powered home a finish to make the score 2-1. The hosts pushed forward in the closing stages but failed to find an equaliser.

Bayern Munich held firm to claim the victory. The result ended their nine-game winless run against Real Madrid in the Champions League. Coach Vincent Kompany watched his side produce a disciplined display on the road.
Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger reflected on the defeat afterward. He said: “We went out for the second half and they immediately scored. I’d say we gifted Bayern both their goals here. We need to do better.”
The second leg takes place in Munich on April 15. Bayern Munich carry a one-goal lead into the return fixture.
