A faction of the African Democratic Congress staged a peaceful protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja on Wednesday. The protesters demanded that INEC recognise Nafiu Bala as the party’s National Chairman.
Nafiu Bala led the demonstrators. They urged INEC to comply with a subsisting Court of Appeal judgment. The group also cautioned against any actions that could undermine ongoing judicial proceedings.
Furthermore, the faction insisted on immediate recognition of Nafiu Bala. They argued that this step would align with court decisions in the leadership dispute. The protesters carried placards and addressed officials at the commission.
Additionally, Abimiku Monday, the Special Adviser on Strategy to the ADC Chairman, spoke to the crowd. He called on INEC to respect the March Court of Appeal ruling. He warned that failure to do so could affect the party’s preparations for future elections.
Meanwhile the protest highlighted deepening divisions within the African Democratic Congress. The faction led by Nafiu Bala challenged the leadership of Senator David Mark. They claimed that court rulings supported their position over the current National Chairman.
Moreover the group warned INEC against actions capable of undermining judicial proceedings. They stated that such moves would complicate the party’s internal crisis. The protest came amid recent realignment efforts by opposition figures.
However, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar hosted former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in Abuja days earlier. They discussed national issues. Separately, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso joined the ADC under Senator David Mark’s leadership.
The developments added to the ongoing debate on opposition unity ahead of the 2027 general elections. Rival factions continued to push their claims before INEC and the courts.
